SPECIAL EVENTS 2019-20
Throughout the school year, we hold a number of special events. This may be in the form of celebrations within school or we may have visitors who deliver assemblies or activities.
BLACK HISTORY WEEK
This year as part of Black History week we celebrated by looking at African and Carribbean culture. On Tuesday 15th and Friday 18th October the children found their rhythm as they got to take part in African drumming and Steel Pan in Motion workshops. The children were encouraged to be as loud as they wanted to be and were in an upbeat musical mood. The children and staff used traditional djembe drums and steel pans to create sounds and music and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
THE FREEZYWATER CARNIVAL
On Friday 18th October, we held a Special Carnival Event to celebrate the end of our Black History Week and to promote the cultural diversity within our community. The children were encouraged to come into school dressed in their own cultural clothing or vibrant colours - they looked amazing.
The Carnival was a fundraiser event for our school and we are delighted to say that we raised just over £720. It was wonderful to see our school and local community gather together to celebrate and we look forward to celebrating again next year.
KS1 Nativity
Parents, carers and friends were treated to the spectacular production of "The Innspectors" presented by Reception, Yrs' 1 and 2. Everyone was so impressed with the children's fantastic acting, dancing and singing and it was lovely to see how much the children enjoyed themselves as well! Our thanks go to all the staff and helpers who have done such a fantastic job and worked so hard over the past weeks. We also thank Fr. Taemin and the church for letting us use the premises and for making the church look so beautiful.
Freezywater Choir - Carol Singing
Our Freezywater Choir recently performed some of our festive favourites in the precinct at Waltham Cross. Shoppers were treated to a range of carols and our children sang excellently to help raise money for our Charity - Make A Wish. We were delighted to see lots of parents and carers who came to support this event.
Yr. 1 Toy Making Workshop
Yr. 1 were recently visited by Classroom Adventures to learn about old fashioned toys. They were shown lots of wooden toys that used forces of "push", "pull" or "gravity" to make it work. The children had fun making a wooden toy and learnt lots of interesting facts about toys of the past.
Snow Queen
We had a wonderful afternoon when we were all treated to a magical performance of The Snow Queen. Set against a snowy landscape this beautiful heart warming tale tells the story of Kay and Gerda, two young children who are the best of friends and tells the meaning of true friendship. The children were absorbed with the story and loved the audience participation! We thank The Flying Pizza Company for sharing their wonderful production with us.
Yr. 2's Royal Tea Party
Yr. 2 parents were recently treated to a royal tea party. This was part of Yr. 2’s learning challenge: “Who was the best Queen of England”? The children were so excited and thoroughly enjoyed all of the preparations leading up to the day. Parents and children came dressed in their formal celebration clothes and it was a thoroughly lovely afternoon and a wonderful part of their learning challenge.
World Book Day
What an exciting day we had celebrating World Book Day and what an array of wonderful costumes! Throughout the day we read books, wrote stories, told stories and dressed up. We had a lot of fun and pupils were encouraged to read and explore the thrill and emotion that reading brings.
The whole school also took part in a ‘whole school story’ with each class adding a piece as it was passed on — starting off in Reception then finishing off with Yr. 6. The children chose the setting of an enchanted forest, a fairy as the character and a bag of gold coins as the object. At the end of the day we all came together in the Hall to listen to the finishing product.
The children also took part in a potato head competition with the winners each winning a book token. It was such a lovely day enjoyed by everyone. Thank you to parents/carers for supporting this event . We raised £260 which we shall use to help us purchase new books for school.
