CURRICULUM STATEMENT
Intent – what are we trying to achieve?
At Freezywater St. George's our PE Curriculum is designed to enable all children and young people to be the best that they can be by:
- Ensuring that the provision is challenging and appropriate and that support mechanisms are in place to allow all children and young people to reach their full potential regardless of ability
- Increasing the provision and the range of opportunities available for high quality PE and sport; within the curriculum and out of school hours, to be sustained
- Improving the levels of progress in PE for all our children
- Ensuring that provision is fully inclusive, engaging, innovative and inspiring and specifically tailored to meet future aspirations
- Introducing good assessment for learning into day to day planning, teaching and assessment of pupils' learning
- Continue to create capacity through the building of effective networks and partnerships, including Enfield's PE Team, Ultrasports and local secondary schools
- To improve subject expertise; encourage all staff to attend CPD training courses and provide full staff CPD twilight sessions to help with the delivery of outstanding PE lessons
To increase participation amongst all children and young people by:
- Increasing the hours of physical activity undertaken by all children per week, aiming for 2.5 hours participation
- Taking into account and acting upon the views of pupils, parents and carers promoting, and giving guidance about, external clubs
- Improving opportunities to motivate and engage those who currently choose not to participate in additional PE
- Increasing the opportunities available for all children and young people to be involved in leadership, volunteering and other roles within PE e.g. Young Sports Leaders
To enable all children and young people tomake informed choices about lifelong physical activity by:
- Ensuring a holistic understanding of lifestyle choices and the place of physical activity as part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle alongside a healthy diet.
- Increasing the number of children participating in activities of their choice as part of a healthy and active lifestyle through extra-curricular opportunities, competition and club links.
We also aim to ensure that all children appreciate and promote the legacy left by the 2012 Olympics including the Paralympics and Olympic Values and the impact of the games on healthy and active lifestyles.
Swimming
Yr. 5 usually participates in swimming lessons during the Spring term. However, because of the Covid-19 restrictions this is currently under review.
